Book Review: The Merciless by Danielle Vega

The Merciless

mercilessBOOK: The Merciless

AUTHOR: Danielle Vega

FORMAT / PUBLISHER: Paperback / Razorbill

Brooklyn Stevens sits in a pool of her own blood, tied up and gagged. No one outside of these dank basement walls knows she’s here. No one can hear her scream.

Sofia Flores knows she shouldn’t have gotten involved. When she befriended Riley, Grace, and Alexis on her first day at school, she admired them, with their perfect hair and their good-girl ways. They said they wanted to save Brooklyn. They wanted to help her. Sofia didn’t realize they believed Brooklyn was possessed.

Now, Riley and the girls are performing an exorcism on Brooklyn—but their idea of an exorcism is closer to torture than salvation. All Sofia wants is to get out of this house. But there is no way out. Sofia can’t go against the other girls . . . unless she wants to be next. . . .

In this chilling debut, Danielle Vega delivers blood-curdling suspense and terror on every page. By the shockingly twisted end, readers will be faced with the most haunting question of all: Is there evil in all of us?

*I would like to thank Penguin Random House for sending me a paperback of this book for review.

This doesn’t affect nor influence my review.*

To be honest with you, I secretly love mystery, thriller, and horror novels. I was given the chance to review The Merciless and it was utterly crazy.

Who would have thought that this story evolved around these teenagers only? Come on. And who would have thought that I literally stopped reading right after dinner time because I know it would give me the chills? Danielle Vega’s writing style was so simple, yet it would make you imagine weird and creepy things. Not good for coward people. It might give you a heart attack or a nightmare.

Strange things have been happening to these ladies, but no one knows who’s the person / creature behind it. It was like a puzzle that needs to be solved ASAP or something wrong might happen again. One of them had suspicions, but everything’s turning wild.

I didn’t dare to finish reading this book at night because I wanted to sleep peacefully. One thing’s for sure, the ending will make you say “SH*T“. Oh my gosh.

I can’t wait to read Danielle Vega’s upcoming works and the sequel of this novel! They’re definitely going to be on my TBR list!

  1. Awesome review! I have seen a lot of mixed reviews about this one. I have a Kindle version of this book and while I haven’t read it yet, I’m obsessed with the whole synopsis of it.
